Dengue is an infection spread by mosquito bites that can cause a severe flu-like illness.
How Can You Catch Dengue Fever?
Dengue is transmitted from human to human through the bite of different species of Aedes mosquito. In parts of Asia and Africa, the transmission cycle may also involve jungle primates that act as a reservoir for the virus.

Dengue fever is most common in Southeast Asia, the western Pacific islands, Latin America and Africa.
How Is Dengue Fever Treated?
Diagnosis is confirmed by blood test
Treatment of dengue and severe dengue is supportive (i.e., aims to manage the symptoms and complications of the infection).
Most infections are self-limiting, with improvement in symptoms and rapid recovery occurring three to four days after the onset of the rash.
Hospital treatment may be required for more serious cases.
